MAYBROOK- A Scottish Castle in Wynnewood, PA built during the Gilded Age

I've driven down Penn Road a million times and never knew this stunning castle was situated just off the road. On a beautiful day, with clear blue skies, I took a walk all around it- wishing I could see the inside too.

Maybrook was built in 1881 by the Architectural Firm of G.W. & W. D Hewitt. Built for local distiller Henry C. Gibson, who at the time was one of the nations largest distillers and fine wine importers.

This building boasts mahogany paneling, oak finishes, ironwork by Samuel Yellin and painted glass windows by Violet Oakley
Gibson was an avid art collector, housing his collection here and also at his downtown Philadelphia residence. When he died in 1891, he left most of his art collection to the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, where he was a Director. The building has had additions and changes through the years, including a large two story Ballroom and Art Gallery which was added in 1901 by his daughter, Mary.

Today, Maybrook is part of a luxury apartment building complex, and is used by it's residents for various functions. How wonderful would it be to go to a party or celebration here?
